How We Started

SYYCLISTA Cycling Club has been successfully developing competitive riders in road cycling in Calgary.

Most of the group members met through our social media group - Southeast Calgary Cycling. We started to do friendly get together rides during covid time and everyone realized the physical and mental health benefits, along with the development of community spirit this sport provides.

Our small group started joining the well-established local amateur race known as Crankmasters Wednesday Night Series (WNS) race. This is a weekly race in and around Calgary throughout the whole summer, held in different areas of the city.

As we grew our experience and confidence in cycling races, we officially registered as a sanctioned club with the Alberta Bicycle Association on April 2023 to allow our riders to compete in local city and provincial races.

On February 16, 2024, we registered the club as a legitimate Alberta Society.

Extending Friendships

What started as meeting new faces in the racing scene quickly evolved into a movement defined by inclusivity. We realized early on that our greatest strength wasn't just about trying to win races or powering through the peloton, but our camaraderie and friendship with the cycling community.

By prioritizing a supportive team culture, we created an environment where cyclists felt welcomed rather than intimidated. This focus on community spirit allowed us to expand our reach far beyond our original circle. We have successfully grown the team by onboarding riders who are looking for more than just a jersey—they are looking for a family that shares their burning passion for racing.
